Luxury Goes Hand in Hand With Sustainability

Eco-friendly Luxury Travel - Vegan travel Manon Les Suites Copenhagen
Living a life that’s fulfilling, doesn’t compromise on your style, comfort or the ethics, and that doesn’t come with harm to others – that’s true luxury.

Lifestyle with a conscience is possible and its beautiful. It’s not just our responsibility (if we want to leave this planet livable for the future generations), but it’s also rewarding.

With the rise in the mindful living movement, there is no dearth of sustainable options in every aspect of our lifestyle – from food and fashion to travel and transport.

Let’s first talk {Sustainable} Fashion…..

When it comes to your wardrobe, whether you like minimalism or a touch of glamour, you can choose to live sustainably without compromising on your style. The same goes for every other lifestyle choice.

Gone are those days when sustainable fashion meant hippie, boxy and boring clothes. The new age sustainable fashion brands are transforming the fashion industry with their well-crafted, humanely made and environmentally friendly clothing and accessories that are super stylish and right on-trend. The luxury designer Stella McCartney is a case in point, whose eponymous label has sustainability at the core of everything they do and is one of the most covetable brands in the world. There would be no fashionista on the planet without a handbag or shoes, atleast, from Stella.

For many of us, finding sustainable fashion brands may sound daunting. But honestly, in today’s time and age you can find ethical fashion options everywhere. A great starting point is finding sustainable options at the brands that are easily available to you and which you already know of. For example, fast fashion brands like H&M and Zara have their own ethical fashion lines, which may not be the best option, but its a good start if completely changing your wardrobe is overwhelming. Even luxury brands like Balenciaga have jumped on sustainable fashion bandwagon and launched exclusive ethical capsule collections.

Another great way to find sustainable brands to match your style is through well-known fashion platforms. Popular fashion magazines and websites like www.whowhatwear.co.uk often have dedicated sustainable fashion section or regularly feature sustainable fashion brands in their stories. In fact, there are even dedicated sustainable fashion websites and digital magazines to help you with everything related to a sustainable lifestyle – fashion, travel, food and much more.

For the connoisseurs of luxury living, you aren’t short of options. If you love cars, you can flaunt the very desirable Tesla, and go a step further and make your car unique with a personalised number plate from platforms like www.primoregistrations.co.uk, or get it painted in a statement color – if that’s your thing. For home decor, stores like West Elm have luxury organic cotton linens, stylish furniture and home decor crafted from sustainably sourced wood and they are all also fair trade.

When it comes to your beauty routine, clean and ethical brands are cropping up everywhere. These brands use only clean organic natural ingredients and pack the products in eco-friendly packaging that are either compostable or made with recycled materials. For example, the perfume brand 7 Virtues not only makes beautiful fragrances but they also use natural oils to create them. Additionally, the brand gives back a portion of their profits for a cause.

Where to find them? Mainstream beauty stores like Sephora have a “clean beauty” section from where you can identify brands that resonate with your need.

All you need is to make a more informed choice, and not just follow the herd. After all, luxury is always something that’s good quality, rare, and made from exceptional materials. Isn’t that what sustainable living is today?

While sustainable luxury as a concept is a privilege only for those who can afford it, living sustainably isn’t necessarily expensive. When you declutter your life, buy things mindfully and take step towards minimizing and eliminating waste from your lifestyle, it will save you more than you can imagine. As Vivienne Westwood rightly said, “Buy less. Choose well. Make it last.”

So next time you reach out to your wallet to swipe your card, try to make a more conscious choice. Support brands that are trying to be kind to the planet, people and the animals without compromising on quality or style!
