Vox Media formally bans fossil fuel advertisements to address climate change

Awesome climate news: Vox Media formally bans fossil fuel advertisements as part of a broader set of policies and initiatives the publisher is taking to address the climate crisis. THIS IS A BIG WIN FOR US.

Vox Media Bans Fossil Fuel Ads

The move makes Vox the second major global publisher to cease accepting advertisements from companies that extract fossil fuels including ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron, and Shell. The company’s refusal to accept advertisements from fossil-fuel industry that is simply greenwashing with its false commitments is commendable. The Guardian instituted a similar ban in 2020.

The owner of New York Magazine, Popsugar and The Cut (among others), actually stopped accepting fossil fuel ads since the start of 2021 but has now formalised the policy.

Yay Vox for choosing planet over profits! Such a wonderful start to 2023.

Vox Media has also partnered with Scope3, an advertising tech firm that enables publishers to measure, reduce and offset the emissions associated with adverts. Advertisers will pay for the impact of actual audience impressions, while Vox Media will pay to offset other emissions.

Hope more media companies and online outlets will follow the suit and acknowledge the realities of climate science over fossil-fuel industry influence.

This is a win for each one of you who had been taking action for the planet. Those of you who were out there on the streets, organizing in the background, challenging politicians, using social media to spread the word, talking to your friends and family, educating yourselves and others, and silently doing your bit for the planet. Our individual and collective action has the power to bring change. Let’s be positive change-makers……………

What changes are you making for the planet in 2023?

{Remember, even a small change helps!}

🇳🇱Netherlands now officially recommends reducing meat consumption, cutting cheese intake by half, and increasing plant-based proteins.

Why? Because food choices impacts m our health, and also the climate.

And the shift goes beyond advice….. Amsterdam has even banned meat advertisements in public spaces to encourage lower-emission food choices.

A fascinating example of how climate policy is increasingly showing up in everyday life. 🌱

What can we do?
Let’s ditch animal foods and embrace a plant based diet. Compassion + health

Thought cruelty-free meant no harm to animals? Thought you were buying ethical? Think again 😬😬

👉🏻 There’s a difference brands won’t tell you — 🐰 #crueltyfree doesn’t guarantee no animals were harmed. A cruelty free product can still have fish oil, bug juice or other animal ingredients.

You need to make sure the products you’re buying are both Cruelty-Free & #Vegan!

Let us get back to basics - slow living, clean (#plantbased) eating, buying what we need, ♻️ reusing-repurposing-recycling, treating food as medicine, less screen time and more living, connecting with nature, 🌎 giving planet the respect it deserves!

Because #EarthDay is everyday.

don’t travel solo…
“you’re married, go with your husband” — We’ve all heard this before…
but here’s the truth… solo travel hits different.

you reconnect with yourself, travel at your own pace, do things you love {and finally do everything you wanted to but was always pushing it back}, 🍰 eat what you want (all those vegan desserts without anyone watching you ☺️🙃), talk to strangers (a lot), sit alone without feeling weird ….. and somewhere in all that, you meet yourself.

scary? Not at all.
worth it? every single time. ✨
