Desk to Dinner – One Skirt 3 Ways

Style Challenge – Wearing One Skirt three ways: causal to work to party.
Wearing one piece of garment over and over again can only be masked for so long. But smart styling can definitely let you wear your favourite piece myriad times.
I bought this H&M skirt last season and while it was sitting in my wardrobe I was working on ways I could wear it. Much to my surprise (it seemed to be one of those pieces you cannot always wear out), I was happy with the way I discovered so many different ways and occasions I could wear this skirt for. Here’s how I did it three times.
Lace Skirt from H&M
Look #1 – Casual Chic
A lacy skirt for a casual look may sound like an oxymoron, but don’t we all love a challenge? To put together a more casual chic look I wore the lace nude skirt with a very light grey slouchy cotton t-shirt tucked in. To make it playful and interesting, I added pop of bright colours through accessories.
I emphasized the waist with a green belt and colour blocked it with red and pink Zara heeled shoes (Oh I will never be caught without my heels, ever) and a red clutch bag. To let the colours do all the talking I did not add any jewelry to the look except basic solitaire earrings.
The belt has gold hardware and I wanted to pair it with gold watch (rose gold on my mind), but I am still waiting patiently for the day I would finally be able to get my lust watch.
Shopping to meet over friends for coffee or just catch up a movie there are so many places I can wear this outfit to. And how lovely these colours look (I am esp loving the shoes, they’re from last season collection of Zara).
Surface to Air T-shirt, Zara Shoes, Charles and Keith Belt

Look #2 – Monochromatic at Work: Layer or not

For a more formal look (for work), I paired the skirt with a printed georgette H&M shirt from the same colour scheme. I added a brown belt to emphasise my waistline and break the colour monotony and threw a navy handbag. At my workplace you can go away with wearing open toe sandals, so I paired the skirt with camel hued sandals from Charles and Keith. I would have loved to wear it with nude pumps, but couldn’t yet find a good pair in my size.

H&M Shirt, Massimo Dutti Belt, Love Moschino Bag, Charles and Keith Shoes

To save myself from the freezing temperature at the office (courtesy AC), I layered it with a jacket. I am going through a colour obsession phase (I know I keep talking about colours all the time, but the obsession seems to be going on …), so I layered the shirt with a bright blue jacket. A brown or a dark green cardigan would also add nice touch, if you prefer layering.

Zara Blazer

Look #4 – Sparkle and Shine for Night

Literally!! Wearing it with a sparkly Mango black tank, a gold belt from Zara and sequinned embellished Zara clutch to add some shine to an otherwise plain Jane nude skirt. I accentuated the dressy-ness of the ensemble by adding a gold necklace, which costs just Rs 200 (i.e. less than $2) bought from Colaba Causeway market, Mumbai (ok if you are ever travelling to Mumbai, and you love junk jewelry, you ought to visit it). A cuff or bracelets would also add a nice touch. Finished off the look with my hair tied in a high pony.

Mango Tee, Dune Shoes, Zara Belt and Clutch

Which combination  is your favourite?

Here’s how I wore it for a dinner and some shopping with my bestie.

Quick Tip: Don’t hesitate to repeat your garment indefinitely. Just let your imagination run and style it different everytime to camouflage repetition.
