Connecting the dots

A beautiful Sunday sunset by the beach …………….

I am getting dotty…

Sumptuous dots have always been my favourites in the print department. And last summer when I could not find one piece of polka-dot clothing that I could fit into, it led to a huge craving of dots. Result?? In the last few months, I amassed a sizeable collection of everything dotty, picking them up mindlessly but not without the intent of wearing them in loads come sun, snow or rain.

And true to my resolution….
When the punch of spring spirit struck me this Sunday, I decided to get smack bang into my dots. Whether it was the boredom of Sunday or an itch for adventure, I don’t know, but I let loose of my experimental side. It was time to mix things up and kick out the boring, so I shoved two dotty items into one outfit. A delicious tangerine polka-dot top connected dots with smaller polka-dots on a chocolatey brown skirt over which I threw in my favourite gold glasses (you can’t do without them on a sunny beach), borrowed shiny polki bracelet from mom’s closet and of course couldn’t have done without those nude slingbacks.

Without sounding like a bit of a narcissist, I must say, I was quite pleased with myself.

Courtesy sunlight, this shot looks like just coming out from a 70s movie. So retro that my outfit looks almost vintage (oh I so loathe even the idea of wearing vintage clothes. Just the thought of wearing someone else’s hands-me-down, no matter how valuable, simply repulses me).

Love how my ensemble’s earthy palette is blending so well with the nature.

yayoiThese dots remind me of 78-year old, polka-dot obsessed, Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama (right). Yayoi has an unusual talent that yields beautiful dots which she exhibits through her art.I stumbled on Yayoi’s work on internet and was completely gobsmacked at how she transformed the simple dots into a piece of desirable art.  One of her recent exhibits ‘The Obliteration Room’ at Queensland Art Gallery in Australia took my breath away. She created an interactive children’s project, which started with a plain white all-white space with regular domestic interior eventually turning into a masterpiece of colourful polka dots in a few weeks. Sheer genius!!!

It is just so fascinating!!!!

don’t travel solo…
“you’re married, go with your husband” — We’ve all heard this before…
but here’s the truth… solo travel hits different.

you reconnect with yourself, travel at your own pace, do things you love {and finally do everything you wanted to but was always pushing it back}, 🍰 eat what you want (all those vegan desserts without anyone watching you ☺️🙃), talk to strangers (a lot), sit alone without feeling weird ….. and somewhere in all that, you meet yourself.

scary? Not at all.
worth it? every single time. ✨

Did you know your fav lipstick may have bug juice 🐞 ? Shocking?
Truth is - most lipsticks in the market contain
🐞 carmine = crushed cochineal beetles
🐑 lanolin = grease derived from sheep’s wool (waxy greasy substance secreted by sheep’s skin)
🐝 beeswax = bee vomit

Who wants to slather their lips with bug juice?
☺️ Didn’t think so.

Thankfully, there are plenty of brands doing it right. 💄 I’ve put together a handy list so you can shop vegan lipstick with ease:

👉🏻 #VeganLipstick Brands:
@violette_fr, @elfcosmetics, @kvdbeauty @milkmakeup, @tower28beauty, @inikaorganic @axiology_beauty, @lilylolouk @rarebeauty,

👉🏻 Cruelty-Free brands with Vegan options:
🐰 cruelty-free doesn’t mean a product is vegan. It simply means it’s not tested on animals, so be careful.
@tartecosmetics @rmsbeauty, @doseofcolors (most products are vegan), @charlottetilbury, @glossier @urbandecaycosmetics @nyxcosmetics

🇮🇳 Vegan Indian makeup brands
@asabeautyindia @kirobeauty @disguisecosmetics @colorchemistry.in @lovechildbymasaba @hyueofficial

Next time you buy makeup – make sure it’s #crueltyfree and #vegan! And look out for
- Natural Red 4
- E120
- *CI 75470 (misspelled in video as CI 17470 🙈)
- Carmine or Carmine lake
- Cochineal extract
- Carminic Acid

👆🏼 they’re all different names of carmine (bug juice)
