“The soul is placed in the body like a rough diamond, and must be polished, or the luster of it will never appear.”
Daniel Defoe

From my recent post, you must have known that I’ve had the chance to shoot with the beautiful fine jewelry from Minawala and today I am posting my favourite look from the shoot in this gorgeous red cocktail dress from Ritika by Ritika Bharwani. Absolutely love this gold embellishment at the waist, it works perfectly with the red.

Ever since I saw Ritika’s dresses at a trunk show last year I was in love with them. You must have seen me wearing her maxi gown from her Moroccon print collection (its currently one of my favourite pieces with its beautiful back). So when I had to do a shoot for diamond jewelry, I could not think of a better outfit than this red cocktail dress by Ritika to pair the beautiful diamonds and emeralds with.

Red is the colour of passion and love. But to me red means more than that, I’ve always had a few pieces of powerful red in my closet that I wear at special occasions. I don’t know why but making a statement with red reminds me of some ethos I live by – to dream and never give up, to take risks and live every moment, to dare to be different and stand strong in what you believe in. It’s interesting how this strong hue signifies two absolutely opposite things – Love and Revenge. Just like a woman wearing red can be considered in love or loose.

In this look, I wanted to show how red is passionate yet beautiful, its bold yet cheerful. And of course the jewelry. I love how you can completely transform a look by adding a few key pieces here and there. I’ve already told about my love for diamonds and was completely fascinated by tons of beautiful diamonds and coloured precious gemstones creation from Minawala. From yellow diamonds paired unexpectedly with emeralds, to an unconventional oval solitaire ring set in curved diamond lines to a contemporary pearl and ruby string paired with polki, every piece was tastefully crafted with finesse and had a mystery and surprise element to it.

How to wear diamonds with your dress?
Indian women often wear their diamonds with their Indian wear but avoid don’t know how to pair it with their dresses and gowns. But wearing your diamond or other jewelry with your western dresses adds class to the look. Here’s how I paired it.

I wore this red dress with a beautiful pair of yellow diamond and emerald earrings, a green cocktail ring and a solitaire ring – the green looked gorgeous with the red Stacking has become an obsession for me lately. Although I was already wearing an overpowering colour, I couldn’t help myself and stacked two diamond bracelets to clash all that gold with some white.

With all those attention-grabbing pieces we kept the makeup very natural with almost nude lips and soft blush.
Here are few tips on how to wear jewelry:

  • Color clashing your jewelry is better than matchy matchy, the mistake most women make. So if you are wearing a red dress, avoid ruby and instead, color block it with green (emerald) or blue (sapphire)
  • Don’t overdo it. A heavy outfit calls for 1 statement piece to make your whole outfit stand out rather than going out with everything you have. Go by the rule “less is more” and don’t overcrowd
  • Overload but be chic. Sometimes keeping the outfit simple and overloading the jewelry can make the right statement but you should know where to stop. If you are going for stacked arms then go minimal with your necklaces and earrings.
  • Don’t shy away to mix your yellow gold pieces with silver, platinum or white gold to add usual interest. It’s not a taboo anymore, in fact mixing different metals and textures looks interesting but you should pair the pieces well. For eg stacking silver and yellow gold bracelets together will work well with nearly every outfit.
  • Did you know that the wrong piece of jewelry can make you look fatter or shorter than you are, so obviously the right pairing can do the opposite? For example, if you have a round face, avoid earrings that are round and pick oval or vertical pieces that will elongate your face. Shorter women should avoid crowding the neck as it cuts height. Instead, pair heavy earrings and a statement cuff and go bare in the neck.
  • Don’t overcrowd the look and complement your makeup and hair with the jewelry. So if you are wearing dangly statement earrings its better to keep your hair sleek; with a statement necklace, a high ponytail or a bun would so it can stand out yet keeping you in the limelight. If you choose a cocktail or bold ring remember it will draw all the attention to your hands, and consequently your nails. So make sure they are perfectly manicured and well-groomed.

Looking back at these pictures I am craving for all these beautiful diamonds……

don’t travel solo…
“you’re married, go with your husband” — We’ve all heard this before…
but here’s the truth… solo travel hits different.

you reconnect with yourself, travel at your own pace, do things you love {and finally do everything you wanted to but was always pushing it back}, 🍰 eat what you want (all those vegan desserts without anyone watching you ☺️🙃), talk to strangers (a lot), sit alone without feeling weird ….. and somewhere in all that, you meet yourself.

scary? Not at all.
worth it? every single time. ✨

Did you know your fav lipstick may have bug juice 🐞 ? Shocking?
Truth is - most lipsticks in the market contain
🐞 carmine = crushed cochineal beetles
🐑 lanolin = grease derived from sheep’s wool (waxy greasy substance secreted by sheep’s skin)
🐝 beeswax = bee vomit

Who wants to slather their lips with bug juice?
☺️ Didn’t think so.

Thankfully, there are plenty of brands doing it right. 💄 I’ve put together a handy list so you can shop vegan lipstick with ease:

👉🏻 #VeganLipstick Brands:
@violette_fr, @elfcosmetics, @kvdbeauty @milkmakeup, @tower28beauty, @inikaorganic @axiology_beauty, @lilylolouk @rarebeauty,

@tartecosmetics @rmsbeauty, @doseofcolors (most products are vegan), @charlottetilbury, @glossier @urbandecaycosmetics @nyxcosmetics

🇮🇳 Vegan Indian makeup brands
