New Buys: Online Shopping from River Island

For a long long while I shied away from the murky waters of e-shopping from international websites (aka importing stuff to India)…. I’ve been very much like ‘what if I order and the stuff never gets delivered, or worse if I end up with disgusting treks to the customs office if the parcel is stuck there‘ kind of girl. However, ever since I got over the fear of buying from international websites and getting the items shipped to India (courtesy few successful experiments), I’ve been on a crazy online shopping fervour. It’s been three months that I’ve made the credit card companies happier resulting in a disappointing fiscal condition and a plummeting bank balance.
So the moment I spotted free international shipping offer on River Island’s website (that ended last week, sob sob), which was further sweetened by a 35% discount code (courtesy Lookbook.nu), the sanity was lost and all my no-shopping commitments flew out of the window. After digging into a seemingly insurmountable pile of products on RI’s website, I zeroed in on a pair of burgundy jeans (how these denims ended in my wardrobe is another special story, which shouldn’t be discussed here for the sake of post length), a basic striped tee and a printed jacket that my wardrobe had been wanting so bad. And do not judge me, because these pieces are really a value-addition to my (fashion) portfolio. After all diversification is the key to success.
I never ordered from River Island before, although they have been shipping internationally to some 100 countries, including India, for quite some time now. So finally with the online sale+freeshipping+discount code the temptation to shop kicked-in resulting in a quick credit card swipe. And woooho, in just 4 days, of hitting the purchase button, I was strutting my new denim pants in delightful burgundy, striped tee and printed jacket.
Ordering from River Island? Piece of cake. Select what you want, hit the buy button, enter the basics – like name, email ID, delivery and billing address select the payment method (key-in promotion code if you have any) and finally the most important part give your credit card details and you are done.
The most thrilling part was that despite the Free Shipping these pieces were delivered to my doorstep in India, all the way from UK, in just 4 days (deja vu?).
The only downside was, RI does not calculate the customs and other duties that would be applicable on the order, so you wouldn’t know the final amount you have to pay for the shopping until the items actually arrive. A 30% extra was added to my final bill by the customs on delivery, but that did not hurt as I already received a 35% discount.
No more shopping now, I have amassed a sizeable collection of everything that would keep the urge and need to shop under control for a reasonable time (oh trust me here, I am after all a finance person, that wouldn’t put me in the bad books of credit score).
Have a great weekend ahead
(is hitting River Island’s store on your mind? Pls don’t curse me under your breath if you happen to hit the Purchase button)

Vegan and Jain food in Budapest? Everyone told me I’ll have a hard time. But not only did I fall in love with the city for its beauty and old world charm, ruin bars, fab party scene and breathtaking sunset views of Danube river, but also amazing #veganfood.

Here are my fav vegan restaurants in Budapest that are also Jain friendly:
🌱 @tranzitbyflow - the chef custom made Jain meals for us and everything was yum
🌱 @napfenyes.etterem - their Somali dumplings are out of the world, it’s vanilla carob sponge cake with whipped cream. You can’t leave the city without trying them (I went every day just for this to this restaurant)
🌱 @vegazzihun - vegan pizzeria in Budapest 🥰
🌱 @theplanteen - pancakes & desserts
🌱 @ganeshavegaetelbar - vegan Indian food
🌱 @vegangardenbudapest - not very Jain friendly though
🌱 @szabad_vegan_bistro - call them if u want jain options
