It dips you into pure luxury exuding Rajasthani royalty; after all it is the former residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur himself. Currently the property is managed by Taj group and they have ensured it has the perfect blend of Indian traditional architecture and a taste of royal experience while meeting the demands of a modern traveller.
Ideal for: A luxury stay giving you the ultimate royal experience in a real world palace {heritage property}. Grandeur, opulence and pure luxury yet very quite and calm – describe this place the best.
Where: Bhavani Singh Road in the heart of Jaipur.
The Rooms: We stayed at the Suryavanshi Suite. It was a grand suite with an old world charm and a peep into colourful India with rick craftsmanship. Upholstery with prints in blue and green, peacock feather print curtains, intricately carved antiques, handwoven Kashmiri carpets, four-poster bed, wall-clad with art work including portraits of Maharani Gayatri Devi, the decor was opulent and loud yet had its own charm. The room also has view to the palace’s 47 acres of manicured lawns where you would love to stroll sipping in the tranquility and beauty of the place. A great way to relax.
They also have a pure luxury Maharani Suite that was decorated by London’s Hammond and was a gift by the Maharaja to his wife Maharani Gayatri Devi.It maintains its original character and architectural style and has been restored so you can relive the history – even the dressing table and Maharani’s walk-in-wardrobe are her originals. Considering its history and grandeur its needless to stay its the most expensive suite of the hotel.
Their standard rooms are also well-decorated and no short of luxury. Some rooms have contemporary bathrooms as well {one thing I always look for in a room}. Overall no matter which room you stay you can be assured of pure indulgence giving you a glimpse of Indian royalty.
Restaurants & Bar: Since I eat only in only pure vegetarian/vegan restaurants I didn’t really have any meals but the hotels does have some great restaurants. I did visit Steam, their unique bar housed in a restored railway carriage. An interesting place to nibble and grab a drink. Breakfast is served in a restaurant with palatial setting and grand chandeliers and has a good spread. Very limited vegan options but for me a large plate of fresh fruits just does it.
Pool & Spa: Considering Jaipur has the extreme of temperatures it’s a wonderful thing that the hotel offers the choice of an indoor and an outdoor pool. Both the pools are huge and a great place to unwind. I’ve heard many good things about the spa, and it looks absolutely amazing, but didn’t get a chance to experience, considering there are so many things to do when you are in Jaipur.
Facilities: Loved their fitness center. The palace also boasts its own golf course,
Extras:
– View to polo matches from the hotel and
– A palmist if you are interested to know your future,
– Peacock sighting in abundance
– Folk dance for entertainment
– A shopping arcade if you’d like to doll out a few thousand dollars {beautiful Gem Palace jewelry store}!
Among all the hotels I have stayed in Jaipur {and there’s quite a few of them} I’d say that Fairmont and Rambagh Palace are the best hotels in Jaipur – pure luxury, great service and great place to unwind and relax.
Although Rambagh Palace is a bit steep, its worth the money. It makes a compelling case for atleast one stay to glance into the life of Indian royalty and their style plus relive the history like a royalty. I always love Taj hotels for their services and this was no exception. If you are a guest here, expect to be treated like a royalty, if you aren’t a guest and just visiting for a coffee the staff can be a little not pleasing.
